About NeuroEd
NeuroEd is for high school teachers and students engaged in the
exploration of challenging new findings in neuroscience. The site is
ideal for use in advanced seminar-style classes or to supplement
neurobiology units in advanced placement classes. NeuroEd draws on
readings, audio, video, and illustrations from recent Dana Foundation
materials produced by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives or the
Dana Press. Members of the Alliance reviewed all of the materials for
accuracy and timeliness.
In this DVD we are presenting five modules: addiction, brain tumors, depression, neuro injuries and Parkinson’s Disease. Content for each module is organized into five sections: Causes and Groups at Risk, Diagnosis and Treatment, Current Research, Refresher Materials, and Study Problems. The Current Research section presents recent findings that have yet to be widely incorporated into treatment or diagnosis, but which offer promising directions. Refresher materials include background information that is specific to the module topic. In an additional portion of the site, entitled Enrichment Materials, we have collected supplementary information that will round out the more didactic and primary source materials in the modules. This section includes Biographies, Ethical Issues, Literary Offerings, and Additional Resources.
We recommend that teachers consult the User’s Guide for additional information on how to use their materials in classrooms, correlation with the National Standards, and in-depth descriptions of the source materials.
